01

Start with what each room needs

A living room may need softly filtered daylight, while a bedroom needs privacy and more complete darkening. Define these requirements before selecting a fabric. Sheers, in-betweens, lined curtains and blackout fabrics create different results and should be assessed with the window position and use of the room.

Large glazing is common in contemporary residential design. Curtain stacks, door handles and sliding door access need room to work. We review how curtains open, where the fabric sits when drawn back and whether occupants can use the doors comfortably.

02

Fabric, heading and proportions

Wave headings create regular folds and suit a clean contemporary interior. Pleated headings give a different silhouette and require a corresponding rail or pole specification. Fabric fullness affects the finished appearance, stack size and material quantity.

Look at samples alongside flooring, wall finishes and natural light. Fabric colour and transparency can change across the day. For a development with several properties, an agreed palette can create consistency while allowing variations for different unit types.

03

Rails, recesses and measurement

A curtain recess should be designed with enough space for the selected track, fabric and any second layer. Ceiling type, fixing strength, air-conditioning outlets and nearby glazing must be considered. A discreet track is only successful when it is securely supported and accessible.

Final measurements are coordinated with finished floor levels and the completed mounting surfaces. Measuring too early can create avoidable changes in drop or clearance. We agree which dimensions can be taken from plans and which need confirmation on site.

04

Window coverings beyond curtains

Roller blinds, Roman blinds, pleated systems and venetian blinds may suit windows where a curtain stack would be impractical. The choice depends on recess depth, opening direction, privacy and the desired level of light control.

Motorisation can be discussed for large or difficult-to-reach windows, subject to the selected system. Agree power provision, charging access or control compatibility before fitting. External screens and shutters can complement interior treatments without replacing the need to assess each room separately.

05

Delivery, installation and care

Made-to-measure products need a confirmed specification before production: fabric, heading, track, dimensions, operating side and finishing details. Lead time depends on the selected products and production programme; we confirm it for the actual order rather than promising one standard time for every project.

Installation is planned after dusty trades and painting are complete where possible. At handover, review movement, clearances and fabric care instructions. Transport folds may need time or a fabric-appropriate treatment; cleaning and steaming must follow the supplier’s guidance.

Before we begin

Practical project questions.

When are curtains measured?

At the appropriate construction stage, with finished floor levels and mounting positions confirmed. Measuring against unfinished floors or changing recesses can lead to incorrect drops or clearances.

Can you coordinate several apartments?

Yes. A unit schedule can record fabric, heading, track and dimensions by property type, with individual options recorded separately before production.

Do curtains replace external shade?

Interior curtains and exterior shading serve different purposes. We assess daylight, privacy and room darkening alongside screens or shutters to build a suitable combination.
