Cruise ship refit flooring: removal to reinstatement

Floor renewal during refit programmes, planned around existing assemblies, substrate preparation and the vessel’s work window.

By appointment. At your project location.

01

Survey the existing floor before stripping

Refit work starts with the floor that is already there. Record the existing covering, adhesive residues, deck condition and any areas requiring repair. Define the extent of removal and who is responsible for disposal and making the substrate ready.

Older assemblies can contain materials requiring assessment before disturbance. If the vessel team identifies hazardous materials, removal must follow the appropriate specialist process. The new installation programme should begin from an agreed, safe and suitable substrate.

02

Cabins, corridors and passenger areas

Cabins need practical interfaces around fitted furniture and doors. Corridors make pattern alignment and seam finishing highly visible. Lounges and restaurants need finishes that suit their traffic and cleaning routine.

Carpet, carpet tiles, LVT, sheet vinyl and linoleum can be considered where the selected system meets the project requirements. The design schedule should identify each zone, its material and the relevant installation detail rather than relying on one general floor specification.

03

Survey, preparation and layout

Assess the existing floor assembly and record removal, repair and preparation requirements. Deck condition, flatness and contamination can affect the new installation. Preparation products must be compatible with the specified assembly.

Plan patterned carpet, seams, borders and material transitions before cutting. Room plans and reference lines help the installation follow the design consistently. Stair edges, service access and door thresholds need a clear agreed detail.

04

Access, logistics and work coordination

Shipboard projects require clear arrangements for access, unloading, storage and movement of materials. Agree permitted work areas, routes and the sequence with other trades. The vessel or yard’s safety and access procedures remain part of the project requirements.

A tight programme needs realistic allowances for preparation and curing. Installation planning should identify which areas are ready, what needs inspection and when the finished surfaces can take traffic. Do not assume that a short docking period removes the products’ readiness requirements.

05

Finishing and project review

Review seams, edges and transitions against the agreed scope, then protect completed surfaces appropriately while other work continues. Product documentation informs the cleaning and maintenance routine after handover.

Our marine gallery includes carpet interiors, technical areas and outdoor leisure surfaces. Use the gallery as evidence of the types of work shown, and provide vessel location, plans, area schedules and dates when discussing a new project.

Before we begin

Practical project questions.

What do you need for an initial project proposal?

Send plans, photographs, the location, approximate areas and the target programme. Include product preferences and existing specifications. The proposal is refined around a site assessment and an agreed scope.

Can you work around a phased programme?

Phased access and out-of-hours work can be discussed. Product availability, substrate condition, drying and curing requirements determine the practical sequence; a target date must be checked against these conditions.

Can flooring, curtains and shading be coordinated?

For residential and suitable commercial projects, these services can be included in one agreed package. Each service still needs its own measurements, specification and installation provisions.

Where do appointments take place?

We work by appointment at the project location. Spain is our main focus, alongside projects in the Netherlands and elsewhere in Europe. Tell us the exact location to discuss practical arrangements.
